Antivirus question

So I'm trying to fix up my step mothers old ass laptop for her, and she really wants an antivirus.  It doesn't need to be anything big or fancy...she mostly browses Amazon and Facebook haha.

Anyways, the problem I'm having is the laptop only has 256 RAM (I know..)...and all of the standard free antivirus programs won't run on that little memory.

Anyone know a very lightweight, preferably free antivirus?  I'm having no luck finding one that doesn't auto update to the newer version atm.

Microsoft Security Essentials.  I use it at home on all of my PCs, laptops, and servers, and it works just fine.  It's about as lightweight as it gets.

Forgive me if I'm belaboring the obvious, but an extra 512GB of RAM would make a world of difference and can probably be had for $20.  Hell, if you tell me what kind of RAM you need, I might even be able to find a stick laying around for you.

I agree bob it would fix everything.  However, talking my step mom into paying to fix her computer, even 20 dollars, is like trying to convince Patrick to like the new Star Trek movie.

But, thank you for the tip.  I hadn't considered Security Essentials.  I'll try it out tommorow afternoon!

I think I could convince your mom to do all sorts of things she doesn't like for $20.
