It looks like AMC is trying to one-up SciFi for making the most ridiculous programming decision of the season.  They've apparently fired Frank Darabont about half way through the production of the second season of The Walking Dead.  Frank is the writer, directory, and overall creative genius behind the show.

Yep, makes sense, must be Fox executives in there too.  Have the highest ratings for the 18 to 49 y/o demo and also one of your best performing shows since AMC decided to take their call letters.

The one thing I did find weird was that Darabont fired all the 1st season writers and was going to hire writers on an episode by episode basis.  I never heard anything more about that.  Anyone else?

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office is investigating a bizarre case out of St. Elmo, after a church pastor was tased, and a woman was stabbed during a fight.

It happened at the New Welcome Baptist Church after Sunday service.

...

Deputies say it all started when Moore, who worked as the Minister of Music was handed his last paycheck, and told by Rev. Riley that his services were no longer needed. Investigators say that's when Moore tased the pastor.

A fight ensued, and deputies say Harvey Hunt, a deacon at the church, pulled out a pocket knife and began stabbing Moore's mother, Agolia, in the arm.

Six people were injured in the fight, all have been released from the hospital.

God bless America!

Not Breaking News: Disney doesn't think too highly of scripts for their blockbusters
by: Mike Sampson Aug. 17, 2011

Andy Hendrickson, Chief Technical Officer at Disney, said last week what we all pretty much knew: story is bullshit. Hendrickson, who works at the studio that recently churned out ALICE IN WONDERLAND, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES and TRON: LEGACY, was speaking at the Siggraph, the computer graphics conference, earlier this month. Somewhere during the course of his talk, he dropped some truth bombs on the audience.

"People say 'It's all about the story,'" Hendrickson said, adding, "When you're making tentpole films, bullshit." This may be something that we as movie fans and critics of not-very-good movies can say with relative ease and frequency. But for an executive at a movie studio to admit this publicly?

Hendrickson didn't stop there. He went on to admit that ALICE "isn't very good" but the "visual spectacle" and the casting of Johnny Depp brought people in droves. His bottom line? Studios should be releasing more tentpoles.

I'll give you a few minutes to bang your head on your desk.

His talk was ostensibly about digital production but he somehow veered into the weird admission that they don't care about scripts or story for their big-budget movies. Remember: Disney shit-canned THE LONE RANGER not because it had story issues (which from what little we know about it - werewolves?... - it had in spades) but because it cost too much money. Money. That's what it's all about.

The sad truth here is that Hendrickson is right. Story doesn't matter because we, the audience, don't demand that it matters. ALICE IN WONDERLAND did make over $1 billion worldwide despite most people agreeing it was pretty awful. It'll be easy to rip on Hendrickson in the Strike Backs below (and by all means, have at it) but at the end of the day, he's just a guy with a calculator, some research and a fancy spreadsheet. We gave him the data. It's our fault.

Nude maid service opens in Fort Wayne
Owner says business is booming

Fort Wayne, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne man has started a business that he says is unique to the Fort Wayne area.

It’s a maid service with a twist.

Fort Wayne Dust Bunnies offers light housekeeping to its clients, but the cleaning is done in the nude.

Well...

That's certainly different.  More here.

Midget Porn Start Killed by Baders

"The headline pretty much covers it, but we will provide further details for all the newshounds out there.

According to reports, Percy Foster, a 35-year-old dwarf adult film star, was found partially eaten in a badger's den in Wales. Workers from the Ministry of Agriculture were preparing to gas the den when they came across the 3'6" Foster buried deep within the the tunnels of the sett (another name for a network of badger tunnels).

Foster was new to the world of porn but had impressed producers with his uncanny resemblance to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. According to as much Google research as we could feasibly do in the office without getting fired, celebrity-lookalike-dwarf-porn is the financial pinnacle of adult dwarf entertainment and Foster was set to strike it rich.

However, the stress may have been too much for Foster, as adult film producer Dexter Yamunkeh notes that "Percy was a little guy with big problems. He was doing well but he was under pressure 24/7, like everyone in this g**damned business."

We will spare you the inevitable "Master Chef" porn titles that we are all obviously thinking and simply wonder this: in a world where everything has already been done at least once, could this be the first suicide by badger?

You can now shut off the Internet.  You've officially seen everything there is to see.

We all share a common passion for urban exploration, so I wanted to share this with you.  It's a Russian location that was used for shuttle launches and other space activities.  It's easily one of the coolest abandoned sites I've ever seen.  I'd love to go here in person some day, but I have a feeling the would be frowned upon.  Here's the website:

http://www.themysteryworld.com/2010/12/abandoned-remains-of-russian-space.html

They've even got an abandoned shuttle there, although I imagine it was probably a training platform and not an actual shuttle.  It's amazing how incredibly primitive the cockpit looks, even compared to a modern airplane.

Here's more nifty pics of a Buran spacecraft.  They were apparently moving it from storage to a museum, and during the process, they managed to run the shuttle into every object in between the two locations.  It's amazing how careless the movers were with this thing.

Apparently NSFW

You might want to put a NSFW flag on that link bob.  I just opened it and the entire bottom of the page was filled with softcore porn....

TORONTO (AP) — Sixteen actors dressed as zombies were injured Tuesday when they fell from a platform during filming of a new movie in the "Resident Evil" series, officials said.

Toronto emergency medical spokesman Peter Macintyre said the victims' costumes made it difficult at first for crews to assess the severity of their injuries.

Paramedics responded to the call from Cinespace Film Studios around 8 a.m. to find what appeared — thanks to Hollywood special effects makeup — to be people who had suffered some untold catastrophe.

"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God,'" Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said with a laugh.

I wonder how many of the paramedics were ready to pack up and GTFO?

This is the niftiest comic I've seen in a while.  It's in Korean, but you don't need to be able to read it to get the gist of what's going on.

Man Allegedly Beat Woman with Frozen Armadillo

DALLAS - A man used a frozen armadillo to attack a 57-year old Pleasant Grove woman, Dallas police said.

The incident happened on Sept. 29 in an apartment complex parking lot.

According to investigators, the altercation occurred when the suspect was selling the carcass to the victim, who planned to eat the animal.

Even the Onion couldn't come up with something as crazy as that.
