For what reason would you do this?

Also are you getting something "tribal" or brokeback that makes no sense?

Not sure yet, but it would have a significant meaning.

Henna you mean? The kind Indians use on their bodies for weddings/special occasions?

What's to explain?

Hemp tattoos are tattoos made from hemp and are temporary.

Hence temporary hemp tattoos.

Tattoos are gay.  If you absolutely must have a tattoo, get a temporary one, like Pat mentioned.

Give the guy a break!  He's an artist.  Let him be artistic.  I would consider one myself if it weren't for the pain.  There's a Chinese character that means both "joy" and "music" that would fit me perfectly.

Cause you're Chinese?  Or is it because a lot of other people have Chinese symbols for tats?  Why do something that perminent that a lot of other people have?  Having a tatto, like getting one's ear pierced, was a sign of rebellion.  And like all other rebellious trends...they were taken over by the Bolshevics, that it, it was mass advertised and then became something "cool".  Also, what if later on in life you decide not to do music?  Or what if the guy is just making up Chinese "words".  I'm still giddy to see these 50's 60's era bikers and babyboomers who are covered in tats when they're older.  I will point and laugh and then run away as they try to chase me in their Harley motor scooters.

Also Briney could be gay cause he's an artist.  That doesn't stop me from reminding him there are good Christian, non-Satanic, straight women outside of Detriot.  If you're an artist why not just paint on a canvas.  Stick up a good ol can of Cambells soup and put it on the wall.  Make a cagillion dollars from it.  Permanent yet profitable.  If you're a musician play the Numa Numa song or some gay frog singing and cell it as a ring tone.

But hey, I'm just being the other voice of the debate.  Everyone has to have their devil's advocate!  Grin

my sister got a small cross in the middle of her back a few years ago.  It was quite tasteful.

Your post made sense up to this point, then you totally lost me.  Make sure you figure out your own Henna and take the design to the artist.  Don't let them come up with their own, because you might get something crazy or just plain wrong permanently stuck on your body.

I posted a link to a blog "back in the day" that was published by a Chinese exchange student at some big university.  People sent him pictures of their Henna tattoos, and he translated them.  If I remember correctly, only ~25% of them were even remotely close to what the "victim" had requested.  About 50% were either totally random or not even a word, and the last 25% were intentionally wrong or insulting phrases.

So... Henna probably isn't a good idea unless you research the design yourself.  Besides, Henna has become horribly cliché.  It's kinda like being emo, "I want to be different, just like everyone else."

You're an artist, Briney, so I'm sure you've got something fairly unique in mind.  Are you thinking about a self-made design?

Is it going to be huge and gaudy?  'Cause I want to be there when you show it to Grandma.
